Week 5 Player Rankings

Week 5 Player Rankings

I can't believe the NFL season is about a quarter over, it feels like it's just begun. I've been writing this for a while and I still can't get the numbering quite right (it's a blogger issue -- if anyone has a solution, I'd love to hear it), but hopefully this post finds you well in terms of fantasy. I apologize for not having the written explanations this time. I had to work late and then when I got home and made dinner I was far more interested in the presidential debate than I expected to be. As a chemistry teacher I was to say that both of the candidates' ideas about how to improve the education system are superficial and won't really help. There is not really any way for the federal government to create teaching jobs, given that all of that hiring is done at the county level in my state. I also work in a low performing school, and it has absolutely nothing to do with class size. Bringing in more crappy teachers isn't going to do a damn bit of good. What we need is more support from in-school administration and better long term training for teachers. Everyone is just too afraid to blame the teachers for their students' shortcomings, but I know that at least 95% of students that are in class are willing to learn. If those kids aren't learning, bringing in more underqualified teachers won't change test scores or build a better country. Back to fantasy football. I was apologizing for not having a written piece and that is why it isn't here. None of the other major sites have write ups for their expert advice, so I don't feel too bad about it.

Last week definitely had its ups and downs, but I feel like it was positive for the most part. I'm going to be unveiling a system of assessing player rankings (I'm a teacher, I assess) that measures what percentage of players are correctly placed on a player rankings list while simultaneously measuring how inclusive the list is. It will be explained better, but I have to give a shout out to my computer-programming friend for getting the script to work properly. I'd be more than happy to accept player rankings from individuals or small websites, but I won't censor any results (including mine).

If you are looking for a track record you'll find it here: Week 1, Week 2, Week 3, and Week 4.
There is also a waiver wire post and a new Seek/Drop post available.

  1. How many carries do you think Brandon Bolden will get this week? Is he a better option than Jacquizz Rodgers or Kendall Hunter (who is playing the team that Bolden demolished)?

  2. Percy Harvin is Playing for MIN vs TEN this week.

    1. Thank you so much for pointing it out. It seems like I can't go through a week without making that mistake at least once.
